Tony Duquette designed the interiors for Mr. & Mrs. Charles Ducommun’s residence in Bel Air in the mid 1960s. Shown here is the entrance hall with its floating bronze staircase and Duquette’s custom crystal stalactite chandelier. The carpet is antique Moroccan, the red lacquered chair is 18th century Venetian from the collection of Frances Elkins and the antique Chinese doors were purchased by Duquette on one of his many trips to the far East.

Ducommon’s Dining Room features Tony’s custom designed suede upholstered, gilt metal chairs and bronze and glass tables. His Biomorphic, gold leafed, console and mirror, flanked by his leaf and crystal standing torchieres can be seen in the background. In the window under a plexiglass is Duquette 3-D costume designs for the San Francisco ballet ‘Jest of Cards’. The custom shag carpet was woven to Duquette’s own tiger patterned design.

The drawing room at the Ducommon residence was designed around the owners’ collection of modern masters. Over the fireplace is a painting by Braque and on the hearth stands a miniature Calder.

The library features a hand woven carpet made in Ireland using Duquette’s own design. Duquette’s signature printed malachite cotton was quilted for the sofa. The painting over the fireplace is by Modigliani. Duquette created the cocktail table using a panel of antique Chinese tribute silk on top of which he has placed one of his prized regency pagodas.
